A discussion on the complexity of texts (from the cognitive research), and how to analyze texts to determine what types of challenges the text presents (i.e., language demands, text structure, cohesion, knowledge demands). This includes how to specifically scaffold those challenges with specific techniques like text sets and the integral role for knowledge demands could be a quad text set. Sarah focuses on how scaffolds can be at the “big picture" planning level (i.e., text sets) as well as the day-to-day lesson planning level (i.e., adding an anticipation guide to support motivation and activate prior knowledge).
