Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies and Disciplinary Literacy
Our session will first provide a brief background of culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, and disciplinary literacy. We will then share resources that can be used to assess and evaluate ourselves, curriculum, teaching materials, and getting to know our students as cultural beings. We will showcase examples of ways that teachers can support all students' lived experiences, followed by a discussion on the difference between deficit and asset-based approaches. Our session will provide lots of useful resources and ways to ponder our current classroom practices.
